Cardinal Tagle Celebrates St. John Eudes Feast and 20 Years of the Eudists in the Philippines

Yesterday, in celebration of the Solemnity of Saint John Eudes and the 20th anniversary of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary in the Philippines, His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, presided over the Holy Mass at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice.

In his reflection, Cardinal Tagle reminded us that having a clean heart means having a heart like that of Jesus. In Sacred Scripture, the heart is not merely the seat of emotions; it is the deepest center of the human person—the place where thoughts and intentions are formed, desires and priorities take root, and decisions are made. From the heart flow our character, values, and way of life.

Eudist spirituality teaches that the heart is our hidden center—the place of truth and decision, where we choose life or death and encounter God. As Scripture reminds us, while people look at outward appearances, the Lord looks at the heart. To know a person, therefore, is to look beyond appearances and recognize what truly fills the heart.
He emphasized that we should allow Christ to live and reign in our hearts, rather than be distracted by heartless machinery, so that His love may be made visible in our words, choices, and actions.

May Jesus purify and transform our hearts, making them truly conformed to His own.

Saint John Eudes, pray for us!
